shepherd

Postby yvette » Mon Jun 07, 2010 2:59 pm

I have little detail of the shepherd family. My grandfather was George Eric shepherd born 1906 in solihull, but cannot find accurate detail of other family members. I know he had sisters. Three names are joan, nellie and iris, but I know there was more than that. I have looked at a time scale on the bdm, but cannot find confirmation of these family members. Can anyone help.

Hi Yvette,
I have looked on the 1911 census for George (Eric) Shepherd can't find one for Solihull. Can you post some info on the sisters (dates of birth) maybe. It may then throw something up.

I tried to identify the siblings in FreeBMD and searched over 1895-1914 but other than George Eric none of the other names you mentioned were registered in Solihul. These are the possibilities for female births, along with George:
Jun 1897 Shepherd Florence Solihull 6d 611
Jun 1899 Shepherd Gladys Eveline Solihull 6d 670
Mar 1905 Shepherd Doris Elizabeth Solihull 6d 634
Mar 1906 Shepherd George Eric Solihull 6d 664
Sep 1908 Shepherd Lilian Eunice Solihull 6d 621
Mar 1909 Shepherd Elsie Irene Solihull 6d 648

George Eric Shepherd was born in Solihull, but it is possible that others were born elsewhere in the locality. There is a Joan Shepherd that I found on genes reunited that has a birth place of Worcester in 1904. I know his sister was Joan as I met her when growing up. The same for nell. I know that joan married a man called Alf and Nell married a man called Charlie. Joan died around autumn last year. She was living somewhere near Worcester before she died. I don't know much about Iris I recalled tht name as being an aunt. I also recalled there being others, but not their names. It is possible for them to have being living anywhere near the Stratford On Avon area, which could also incorporate Worcester. I have no detail of ages. I believe there was seven children and possibly two were boys (inc George Eric). The Bdm shows only one record for George Eric, which fits the date of birth. 20th January 1906. This is a definite date. He married Florence Higgins (b.25.11.1912) in 1934.

Is it possible that the lady you knew as Joan used one of her middle names, rather than her first name? I have found that with quite a few relatives.

Also, Nell could have been called Helen but known as Nell.

Apologies if you have alread tried these.
