Alistair McGowan - talk about the show

Hi Peter,

Not so sure about that. In my magazine it merely says that bonus footage from his programme will be on the CD. I doubt that they would give away one of the most recent shows for free. The Ian Hislop show is from the first series so more understandable that they would give that show away on a cover CD - especially as the first series is repeatedly shown on UK TV History.

This is a short note written by Melvyn Brown, Chronicler of the Anglo-Indian community, who helped Alistair McGowan find the undiscovered truth of his community and about his Anglo-Indian origins.

"Dear Anglo-Indians worldwide and the BBC FORUM ,
I am pleased and rewarded that in a small way I was responsible and in a position to assist Alistair MacGowan in the quest for his Anglo-Indian roots and also veryespecially to the team from the BBC who had spent much time and research in getting theentire Episode together. Hats off to all of them, not forgetting the big man at the top of theladder, Sam Miller. God bless them all for even considering the fact that we are here inthis time of world history as a unique tribe, living in India and the only community in theentire nation to have English as our Mother Tongue.... and a place in the Indian Constitution. Thank you BBC for giving us a place in the sun. Thank you Warren(my son) and all my Anglo-Indian Friends and Well-Wishers for thishappy connection to the Forum on "Who Do You Think You Are". I lecture on the subject of Anglo-Indian Genealogy and I feel
Alistair has made a very positive contribution in raising the profile of the Anglo-Indian Community.

I think many Anglo-Indians recorded it in UK and its probably going to go round the Anglo-indian commuity worldwide

You don't pay you go to the Britsih Library to use the N series Ecclesastic Records! For some reason the programme failed to mention that these records are where the majority of people searching for ancestors in India start. There are records of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials (17th century to 1947)as well as many other useful records

Have a look at the Families in British India Society website

If you can't get to BL you can order microfilms via LDS (Latter Day Saints)centres. There used to be helpful notes regarding this on Cathy Day's "Family History in India" site. There should be a link from FIBIS site to this one

I know Jerri,
But as in all these programmes they are not telling the general public the whole truth about searching for records, I think they should do like they did in the first series, explain where to go, how to do it and the cost invovled.
Or the case as you pointing out no cost involved.
