David Tennant's real name is David McDonald; but when he joined the Actor's Union, he had to change his name as there was another David McDonald and they couldn't have two actors with the same name. So, he took his stage name from Neil Tennant (a member of the Pet Shop Boys), and since then he was - David Tennant!
